How Much Does a Website Cost in India?

What actually drives website cost, and how to compare quotes that look wildly different.

How much does a website cost in India?

Website cost in India varies enormously because the term covers everything from a template setup to a custom application. The useful question is not the price but what drives it: number of unique templates, whether content is written for you, integrations required, and what happens after launch. Two quotes differing tenfold usually describe different work.

Asking what a website costs is like asking what a vehicle costs. The honest answer is a set of questions that determine it. This page explains the cost drivers so you can compare proposals on the same basis rather than on the headline figure.

What drives website cost the most?

The number of unique page templates, not the number of pages. Ten pages using three templates costs far less than ten pages each designed individually. After that: whether content is written for you, how many integrations are needed, and whether any custom functionality is involved.

Always ask a supplier how many templates their quote includes. It is the single question that most often explains a price gap between two proposals for 'a ten page website'.

Why do website quotes vary so much?

Because the deliverables differ. A quote may cover a licensed template configured with your logo, or a custom-designed site built from scratch with original content. Both are legitimately called websites. The difference shows in speed, maintainability and whether it can be extended later.

Other common differences: whether hosting, SSL, staging and post-launch fixes are inside or outside the price, and whether content writing is included or assumed to be supplied by you.

What ongoing costs should I expect?

Domain renewal and hosting are the baseline. Beyond that: SSL where not included, maintenance and updates for a CMS, backups, and any paid plugins or apps. For a CMS site, budget for maintenance — an unmaintained site accumulates known vulnerabilities and eventually breaks.

For e-commerce, add platform subscription, payment gateway percentages and app subscriptions. Recurring app fees are frequently the largest surprise in a store's first year.

Is a cheap website worth it?

Sometimes, if you need presence rather than performance and understand the trade-offs. The common problems are heavy licensed themes, no content of substance, no measurement, and no path to extend. The cost often reappears within two years as a rebuild.

A reasonable compromise is a small, well-built site with a proper component system — fewer pages, but built so pages can be added later without starting over.

Should content writing be included?

Decide it explicitly. Content is usually the largest hidden cost and the most common cause of delay. If you supply it, the quote is lower and the timeline depends on you. If the supplier writes it, expect a higher price and a requirement for your input on specifics.

Sites that launch with placeholder or thin content rarely get improved afterwards, because the launch has already happened and attention moves elsewhere.
